So when is World Television Day? The answer is: every year on June 19th.

World Television Day is a day to stop and celebrate television's widespread impact on society. This month, we are taking the time to recognize the most significant broadcasters and contributors in this influential medium. We will be looking back at key moments in time and exploring what has contributed to TV’s longevity as an expression of cultural touchstone since its inception. There are many aspects that mark the power of television, but it’s no doubt that emphasis must come on how popular it is today--and this begs the question: when is World Television Day?

World Television Day occurs on June 19th every year. It is the one day of the year when television and its many fans can celebrate the medium as a whole. The day commemorates the invention of a device by a German engineer named Paul Nipkow, who succeeded in transmitting images using a rotating disk in 1883. The device was called the “Television” but it would be years before any sort of practical application for it would be discovered. In 1955, industries across the globe began to develop and manufacture televisions, and an industry-wide standard for color TV broadcasting was set in 1966 with color TV standards in Europe, US and Japan. By 1967, there were an estimated 100 million TVs in use all over the world.

Today, television remains an immensely powerful, influential and pervasive force all around the world. People of all ages and from all walks of life are fascinated by the medium and its various offerings. It is just as popular as ever before and every year it continues to reach new heights that were previously unimaginable, with new shows and innovative technology introduced each year.

World Television Day celebrates television at large with original and classic shows from all over the world. So, when is World Television Day? It's on November 25th this year!

Earlier this month, the President of Poland Andrzej Duda awarded Frans Vischer with a Medal for Outstanding Contribution To Polish Culture for his role in establishing World Television Day.

World Television Day is on November 25th. It's a day to honour the contribution of television, both as a media and as an art, to our societies around the world. Spreading awareness of the diversity and quality of television programming, while encouraging people to appreciate what they see on screen is a key aim.

Television has been called "the fifth screen". It's also referred to as "a window on culture". Television was first invented in the 19th century for domestic entertainment. Today it is used for communications and entertainment and has brought educational opportunities, news information, education and health care into homes around the world.

The day is observed by more than 100 countries and this year it has been supported by the United Nations.

World Television Day began in 2003 when a group of European TV experts and enthusiasts launched a petition that urged UNESCO to dedicate one day each year to celebrating television as an art form. Their aim was to promote television as a media, not just a means of entertainment. An informal coalition formed, including producers, writers and distributors, who were responsible for leading the organisation of World Television Day. Over the next few years they gathered support from Europe and beyond until, on May 18th 2006, UNESCO officially recognized World Television Day as an international holiday.

Today World Television Day has become an opportunity for television enthusiasts and producers from all over the world to promote their favourite programmes together.
